Hermetic principle 1: Mentalism

“The All is mind, the universe is mental.” - The Kybalion

The principle of mentalism is the first building block of the process of manifestation.

To the alchemist, the principle of mentalism explains all phenomena of life, matter and energy. Through the understanding of this principle, the alchemist is able to diagnose the nature of energy, power, and matter as beings subordinate to the power of the mind. The alchemist uses this knowledge to connect with his or her innermost self, and through that connection bring balance and stability into his or her own life. Thus, he or she becomes fully capable of manifesting anything within the will of the divine.

To understand the principle of mentalism is to come closer to the mind of the divine: becoming one with the universe and, therefore, discovering your purpose for existence in the mind of God. The principle of mentalism shows one the effects the mind has on all planes of existence (mental, spiritual, and physical).

Throughout history, religion has echoed this belief and spoken on the importance of the power of thought.

In Sanskrit, this innermost part of your being that connects with the mind of the All is called Atman, which means innermost, spirit, or soul. The Atman in Hinduism is the true essence of a person that exists beyond time, eternal, imperishable, and forever living in the mind of brahman (The Absolute).
